Rochester Area Neighborhood House
Sudden job loss, death of a spouse; life circumstances can change everything, for anyone.
RANH recognizes the basic needs of residents in crisis
and responds with emotional and financial assistance. Founded in faith, RANH believes that people helping people is the model of a strong community.
Oak Arbor Church has, for years, offered support for Rochester Area Neighborhood House. This summer, RANH asked Oak Arbor to become one of it's 'official' member churches. In September 2006, the Oak Arbor board approved a motion to accept this invitation. We now have seats on the RANH Board, and will support and participate in this worthy organization with both volunteer and financial resources. If you would like to find out more about RANH, contact Pastor Derek Elphick or Brad McCardell.
Banbury Cross Therapeutic Equestrian Center
Banbury Cross is a non-profit Therapeutic Equestrian Center that strives to better the quality of life for people of all disabilities through therapeutic equestrian activities. The center provides the opportunity for each student to develop to his or her greatest potential. Through training and involvement of volunteers, Banbury Cross also endeavors to strengthen understanding toward disabled people.
Oak Arbor organizes volunteer days at Banbury Cross to help maintain the buildings and grounds. Other Oak Arbor volunteers also assist with the annual fundraiser in May.
Moms and Tots
This group offers mothers and their children (infants through kindergarten age) a chance to get together once a week to enjoy each other's company in a casual atmosphere. We meet in the social hall where the children play and the moms chat. Visitors welcome anytime! Check the Calendar section for our schedule, or just call the church office.
Scrapbooking Events
Our All-Day Scrapbooking Events are held periodically throughout the year in the Oak Arbor Social Hall. Highlights include large open workspace, multiple vendors, instruction, raffle & door prizes, delicious meals and goodie bags! Check the News & Events page for schedule information, or contact Pamela Steen at 248.652.3420
Ballet Classes
Liane de Chazal teaches ballet classes on Monday afternoons during the school year culminating with a ballet recital in the spring. Call the Church Office for information or to contact the teacher. 248-652-3420.
Rochester Road Clean-up
Oak Arbor has adopted a section of Rochester Road as part of the Oakland County Adopt-a-Road program.
Periodically, we organize volunteers to keep this section of road clean, contributing our part to the process of keeping Michigan beautiful.
Blood Drive
Periodically, Oak Arbor sponsors a Red Cross Blood Drive. 80% of all blood donations made through the Red Cross are given at mobile drives held by volunteer sponsors like Oak Arbor. The Red Cross manages nearly half of the nation's blood supply, so you see that your role is absolutely crucial in helping to ensure that blood is available to those in need. Watch the calendar for announcements regarding dates and times.
Memorial Day Weekend Family Canoe Trip
Organized by two members of the Oak Arbor congregation, this is an annual event enjoyed by many families. This weekend trip to Baldwin, Michigan features two days of canoeing, kayaking or rafting down the Pere Marquette River, considered to be Michigan's clearest and cleanest free flowing river. The journey offers you new opportunities around each bend to enjoy the wildlife and peaceful beauty of Northern Michigan. A great canoeing river for the beginner to intermediate paddler, Pere Marquette follows a winding course through a mixture of National, State, and private forests. Before and after canoeing, families enjoy meals, activities and fellowship around a campfire. Many good memories have been made on this trip over the years.
